Recently, I received an email from the company that hosts my old blog, Moxie Wife, informing me that I had neglected to pay their yearly hosting fee and because of that, the site had expired. For a few minutes, before I could check, I thought this meant that the site was gone, the posts deleted, and the archives lost forever. On that blog is the story of how Dan and I took a rocky beginning and, with a lot of hard work and even more mercy from God, created a happy, life-giving marriage. I was heartbroken to think that all those stories and insights might be gone.
Luckily, I paid the overdue fee and all was restored and well again. But it did scare me enough to motivate me to spend a little time pulling my favorite marriage-themed posts from the site and compiling them into a document. I thought I’d simply print out a few copies, tuck them away, and give them to my kids when they are older. But then I mentioned my near loss on social media and people began to ask whether I would turn the posts into an eBook and share it with them, as well. You know, in case I fail to renew my old blog again in the future. (Which, honestly, they’re not wrong to wonder about.)
And so I created this (50ish page) eBook. It’s for me, my husband, our children, for you, and for anyone who deeply loves their marriage and their spouse but also knows how very, very hard this beautiful vocation can sometimes be.
(As a side note, when I was writing at Moxie Wife, I was writing primarily for women and the eBook reflects that. I think there’s a little something for everyone in these essays though, so, if you’re a guy, maybe just adjust the pronouns a bit.)
Marriage is not for the faint of heart. It requires that we sacrifice and bend and forgive over and over again. But it is also one of the purest joys and greatest gifts that God has to offer us. I hope that if this eBook does nothing else, it will entertain you, leave you feeling a little less alone, and fill you with hope. Because no matter where you are standing in your marriage — whether atop a beautiful peak or in a deep, dark valley — there is reason abundant to hope.
